Volunteering is a core value for Hungarian Interchurch Aid. It is good and valuable in itself, it is an exemplary expression of social solidarity which is useful for both those performing voluntary work and those in need of assistance.
Our organization has been involving thousands of volunteers in its activities since its foundation. The committed work of our volunteers is a great help for us during our everyday activities: mitigation of emergencies, fundraising, awareness raising, various events, support to our social work and other fields.
Principles of professionalism, partnership, trust and collaboration guide our work both with individual applicants and volunteer groups of our partner companies. As a professional host organization we strive to create the organized framework for volunteers’ employment at all levels of the organization, in accordance with the relevant legislation on volunteering and our high professional and ethical standards.
Our further aim is to ensure the possibility of long-term commitment and development our volunteers; that are also supported by the regularly organized trainings, maintaining contacts that go beyond the volunteer programs and holding community meetings.
We share our many years of experience and good practices gathered in the field of volunteering with interested partners at professional forums and in studies thereby contributing to spreading the message of volunteering in Hungary.
In 2011 on the occasion of the European Year of Volunteering, HIA-Hungary organized a conference entitled “Community in corporate responsibility” involving the most prestigious international and national experts. As a priority partner of the Hungarian Institute for Educational Research and Development, our staff-members contributed to launching of the School Community Service through elaboration of professional materials and they are still engaged in the process of preparing teachers.
